Parque Tantauco to be a permanent member the Environmental Council of the Los Lagos Region
On June 29th, Parque Tantauco attended its first session at the Environmental Council of the Los Lagos Region –the local chapter of the Chilean environmental agency-, in its capacity of representative of the local NGOs. Alan Bannister, Chiloé manager of Parque Tantauco, took part in the meeting, held in the city of Puerto Montt.
Starting this year, Parque Tantauco –through Fundación Futuro- was appointed member of this Council, for a two-year period. The Council gathers representatives from academia, NGOs, industries and workforce, with the local deputy Ministry of the Environment and part of his team.
The decisions and declarations that the Council may adopt are not mandatory for the executive authority; the main objectives are to guide the Intendant in certain topics as requested by him of directed by the Ministry, and to make visible to the relevant authority issues related with biodiversity, pollution, climate change, administrative division of the territory and such.
