Workshop to educate on best practices for Southern Chile forests restoration
Three days of conversation and analysis where professionals and all those interested in environmental conservancy will go over the future projections for Chiloé and the Southern territory, hosted by Parque Tantauco.
From October 19 to 21, 2016, Parque Tantauco, located at Chiloé, will host a workshop called “Restoration experiences of forests in Southern Chile: from theory to practice”, co-organized by the Restoration of Forestry Ecosystems Research Program of the Forestry Institute of Chile (Infor by its Spanish name) and the Parque Tantauco administration.
It has been four years since people convened at the first version of this workshop, held at Chaiguata Lake at the time, where the main objective was to share experiences of restoration of native forests in Southern Chile.
The workshop had an impressive turnout, with the attendance of both public and private entities as well as companies, NGOs, researchers, protected areas representatives and owners, park rangers and ecology professionals in general. The result was the “Chaiguata Declaration for Ecological Restoration”, an urgent call to stop environmental degradation processes in Chile and promote ecological restoration, so as to ensure a continuous output from the ecosystem to the benefit of society as a whole.
“For Tantauco, this type of collective action is key, as it incentivizes other actors to work towards conservation of species. We are very pleased to host the event once again”, says Alan Bannister, Chiloé manager of Parque Tantauco.
This second version of the workshop is directed to professionals and technicians in the field, as well as to graduate students that may be developing works on the topic of restoration of ecosystems in southern Chile; and also to national and international research scholars who want to get to know the Chiloe forests and discuss possible restoration alternatives for the future.
The meeting shall also count with the attendance of specialists from Infor, Universidad de la Frontera, Universidad de Los Lagos, and the Climate and Resilience Center from Universidad Austral, among other institutions.
