Parque Tantauco exceeds 7,700 visitors in 2017
- Parque Tantauco closed its year 2017 with statistics of visitors that exceeded expectations as we started the season in December 2016 with an earthquake that affected the south of the province and added the climatic factor that gave us a 2017 that was the rainiest year registered in the last decade.
- Even with the inclement weather, last year visitors remained stable. During the spring of 2017 we had months with a record of visitors, with for example December where 889 visitors registered in the northern area.
The southern side of Chiloé, and especially Tantauco Park, has become an unmissable place for the thousands of visitors who decide to visit this magical island all year round and enjoy its wildest side.
During 2017, Tantauco received a total of 7,771 visitors, which added to all the years that the park has received visitors since 2007, more than 38,600 people have known the wild side of Chiloé.
This 2017 was the year in which more people of Chiloé have come to enjoy for the day the wonders of Tantauco, since more than 5,000 people entered to Yaldad sector for the day, compared to the 2,900 people who did it in 2016. This sector it is constantly improving and during the year, we opened the Darwin Trail that has giant animals on the road, being a new attraction in the place.
Parque Tantauco is one of the most important places for trekking and hiking in Chile. So far the trails total are more than 130 km. There are routes of low difficulty and high difficulty, depending on the distance, topography, and length of the section.
“We are very happy with the number of visitors in 2017, because during the year we managed to rebound in visitors, getting more people to go out in the open air during the off season. December was a great month, where more than 800 people came, of whom we believe most are from Chiloé, “says Alan Bannister, Chiloé Parque Tantauco Manager.
