Tantauco welcomes exploration event
“Highly technically demanding routes” of between 5 and 75 kilometers will cross the private park, with a logistic organization that includes a helicopter ride to the starting point.
Facing the first edition of the event, the promoters of Tantauco Trail Discovery present it as “a trekking and exploration race, in a marvelous location that affords different types of soil –bog, meadow, walkway, wetland and forest; an ideal variety for sportsmen looking for a different experience close to nature”, says producer Víctor González.
“The scenery in Tantauco is valuable from a documentary point of view. Broadcast companies such as ESPN, Animal Planet and Discovery have been interested in holding races here in the past, seeing that the place is unique”, adds the representative of Aventura Aconcagua.
The competition contemplates different distance marks: 5, 15, 26, 52 and 75 kilometers, all “signaled, because orientation is not a factor in contest. There is no great gradient; it’s quite flat. The difficulty lies in the terrain, as you pass through intricate roots, sinking bogs, myrtle forests, log walkways. You can very well run, but you need to master the different running techniques”, explains González.
All the circuits, which will consider a cabin stop every 10 kilometers, have their finish line at Chaiguata, while the two long routes leave from Inío, the southernmost tip of the Park. “You get there by helicopter, with the ticket being included in the participation fee. Participants may arrange their transportation to the city of Castro, where the organizers will pick them up and get them to the Park”, explains González.
